  • Integrity, a self-starter attitude, and a passion for managing their own projects;
  • Excellent project management, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills;
  • The desire to work in a collaborative team setting; and,
  • An interest in attending bi-monthly volunteer meetings.

If you would like to get involved, please check out the opportunities listed below!  You can also fill out our General Volunteer Application, and we’ll be in touch when opportunities arise that fit your areas of interest.

Current Opportunities

OAC Bolt Fund Coordinator

Are you passionate about safe hardware at your local crag?  The OAC Bolt Fund is a brand new project that the OAC is exploring in 2025. Developers across Ontario routinely use their own personal funds to perform the service of replacing worn, rusty or damaged hardware on outdoor routes, including buying bolts, hangers, glue and anchors for community use. The OAC Bolt Fund will use a portion of the OAC’s annual membership funding to reimburse developers for this hardware.

At present, the OAC is planning to focus the fund on the reimbursement of replacement hardware rather than hardware on new routes. In addition, the OAC will not be physically installing hardware, instead relying on developers already working within the province. Reimbursement will take place annually each fall season, with total funding set each spring based on available budget and membership dues. Additional information to follow.

The OAC Bolt Fund Coordinator will focus on establishing the guidelines, process, funding and organization of this initiative.  Given this is a new project for 2025, this is your opportunity to make a difference within Ontario climbing, and to improve the sustainability of our climbing infrastructure.

Duties fulfilled by the Bolt Fund Coordinator include:

  • Building out the guidelines and procedure document for the OAC Bolt Fund
  • Setting up the annual reimbursement application process
  • Evaluating reimbursement applications annually during the fall
  • Determining the annual funding requirements in coordination with the OAC Treasurer
  • Working with experienced route developers to set minimum standards for hardware reimbursement for Ontario rock – metal type, diameter, length, etc.
  • Liaising with local developers throughout the climbing season for ad hoc hardware repair and reimbursement

We’re looking for an individual to start ASAP to kick off the OAC Bolt Fund in 2025!  Applicants must be organized, strong communicators, and able to work independently.  Experience in route development is an asset, though not required. Time commitment will vary throughout the year, with the majority of work taking place during the fall application cycle once the program is established.

Permapotties Project Manager

We’ve been investigating the possibilities of installing permapotties at a few Ontario crags, in place of traditional portapotties.  We’ve already done some initial information gathering, but need someone else to take this idea further and determine the feasibility of such a project.

The ideal volunteer for this role will be detail-oriented, methodical, good with project management, and excited to move climbers towards a more sustainable future in the outdoors!  Bonus points for having a background in ecological studies and/or waste management, and an ability to talk about poop regularly without being disgusted 🙃
